Why nobody changes their profile picture in the forums?

I just find it peculiar that most of the members here tend to not change their profile pictures for a while (or for a long time). I sometimes feel that I am the only member here that changes his profile picture once in a while when he felt like it.

My intention is not to make offense, just wanna know if that's the culture here.

I see and associate pictures first with usernames, so I thought of keeping my username/icon consistent in some places even though I probably shouldn't. I only change mine if I decide to draw my OC again and it looks good enough to be my new icon. _{Though for this place I should have something Touhou related like one of my fan characters as my icon instead...}

For me personally, even though I have plenty of Remilia pictures that would perfectly as a profile picture, I have developed a sort of attachment to this one and replacing it would hurt my heart a little. (Although its fair to mention that I have a habit of replacing my discord profile picture every two months or so.)

As Felis-Litch said, it also has to do with the "internet identity" people create. The more time one has a certain profile picture and username, the more they start identifying themselves with it and it just becomes harder to change.

Yeah, I remember some people on the old forums changed their names and pictures all the time. Personally, I was a little bit like that too, but at one point I found an image that caught my heart and stuck with it everywhere ever since. Guess those that are still around had enough time to consider what to use and chose the one they feel most attached to.

Maybe I don't have much of a say here, but the two above me summed it up well. It creates a personal identity the same way we each have our unique identities in real life. When I have the time I'd love to start looking for a nice profile picture to suit me on this website :)
To add on my own opinion, I think part of it is also laziness. In other apps/websites I usually like to change my username along with the profile picture, so it causes confusion and people don't recognize me. I dunno, it's just easy to stick with the same profile and everyone gets familiar with it.

Soooooo, is it maybe because of the forum culture, where it fosters familiarity and knowing who's who, unlike modern day "social media". Even though I tend to change profile pictures and even usernames, people still know who I am.

I think that's what I like about the forum community. It feels like we live in a small town where people know every single one of its residents.

I've had this profile picture ever since i joined the forum 2 years ago, so for me it's a matter of nostalgia. Also i lost the original image file so this makes it all the more special

my profile picture is perfect in every way. there is no reason to change it.

In my case, it's a mix of having a history of not using profile pictures and that I can't find any picture which I can say "perfect as my profile picture". And this is coming from me, who has 1TB of archived Touhou artists.

Way back in the old MotK boards, I used to be one of the people that would change my avatar every few months, usually a different Koishi image. But then one day I decided I want to stick with one going forward, just like some of the other notable members at the time.

I use the one I have now because another member decided to make this one for me (not the artist, just made this image crop and all, the original artist is B-ginga btw, but don't look up their recent works though, it's all NSFW), and I was super grateful for it. I liked it enough that I decided this was the avatar I was gonna stick with going forward. I liked the casual look of Koishi from it.

I still have the DM of this exchange in the old board funnily enough.

I change it! I do it every few years, whenever I get tired with the current picture. It's always been Scrooge in recent years though (or Flintheart, in this particular case; they're so similar yet nothing alike).

In my case it could not be otherwise since it is "Uniquely"nd. seamlessly, in its truest essence, linked together with the other 2 written and text-explained signature.
